NEW YORK (AP) — A man believed to be the father of “Baby Grace,” the 2-year-old girl whose body washed ashore in Texas, said in an interview broadcast Thursday that the girl’s mother loved her, and he didn’t believe she was capable of harming the little girl. The girl’s mother, Kimberly Dawn Trenor, and stepfather, Royce Clyde Zeigler II, were arrested Saturday and charged with injury to a child and tampering with evidence. According to court documents, Trenor, 19, told police she and her husband killed the girl in July and hid her body in a shed before dumping it in Galveston Bay. It’s heart wrenching to think she might have done this to such a beautiful little girl,” said Sawyers, 20, of Mentor, Ohio. Sawyers said Trenor didn’t give him a reason for ending their relationship. read more

A woman who snatched a three-day-old baby girl from a Perth maternity hospital was caught by police on a bus heading for Kalgoorlie, 500 kilometres away. On Thursday night baby Courtney had been reunited with her mother while her 31-year-old alleged kidnapper, who it’s suspected may have recently lost a baby of her own, was being questioned by police. The abduction of the newborn baby has prompted a review of security at Perth hospitals, although Western Australia’s Attorney-General Jim McGinty says they cannot be turned into prisons. The 31-year-old woman walked into the hospital and asked the mother if she could take a picture of the baby, police said. A young woman sentenced to life in jail for murdering her baby has lashed out in court at her own mother, calling her a “gutless, thoughtless bitch”. Candaneace Lea Metius, 24, of Beenleigh south of Brisbane, yelled at her sobbing mother after the guilty verdict was delivered in the Supreme Court in Brisbane this morning. The outburst came after it was revealed Metius’s estranged mother had written a victim impact statement outlining the devastating effect the death of her eight-month-old grandson had had on the family. During the 10-day trial, the jury watched harrowing security camera footage, which showed Metius using her hands and body to smother Bray at Brisbane’s Mater Children’s Hospital on October 21, 2004. Metius claimed she was depressed and unaware of her actions at the time, but director of public prosecutions Leanne Clare argued it was “cold-blooded murder”. A 15 year old Southern Tasmanian girl has been compensated for injuries received after falling from a first floor window when she was a baby. In April, 1994, the girl fell five metres from the window of the Kinetic Dance Studio which was above the Hobart City Hall. Her father, Kenneth Webb made a claim against the Hobart City Council and Kinetic Dance Studio, asserting part of the window frame had not been maintained and was kept in place with a nail.
